Edmond dry cleaner goes a tad ‘greener’ - THE OKLAHOMAN
John A. Williams
EDMOND — The first thing you notice when you walk into Vista Dry Cleaners in Edmond is it doesn’t smell like a dry cleaners. Owner Shafi Chaudry said that’s because he is committed to using cleaning products that are "friendly to the human body and to the environment.”
Vista Dry Cleaners at 212 E Second St. is one of four dry cleaners in Oklahoma that uses Green Earth cleaning products, he said.
"Other businesses use a petroleum-based solvent called PERC, perchloroethylene,” Chaudry said. "That’s what causes the smell and some people are allergic to it.”
Instead, Green Earth products use an organic, nontoxic, silicone-based solvent called D5. "It doesn’t leave a residue smell on clothes. Repeat customers tell us they like it for the softness and no smell,” Chaudry said.
Customer Chris Skillern said he appreciates the "green effect” the business has toward protecting the environment. "Any little thing anyone can do can go a long way in making a difference,” he said.
Chaudry is a retired electrical engineer. He opened Vista Cleaners in August and has since opened a drop-off location at Waterloo Road and Midwest Boulevard for east Edmond customers.
Three other locations in Owasso, Skiatook and Bartlesville use Green Earth cleaning products, he said. http://newsok.com/edmond-dry-cleaner-goes-a-tad-greener/article/3363363
