Johnson cuts running costs - NEBUSINESS

THE owner of dry cleaner Johnson today said a crackdown on costs was helping the chain protect profits amid tough high street conditions.

Johnson Service Group said like-for-like sales were below hopes in the first half of 2009, but running costs are £100,000 a week less than in November - which "significantly" reduced the blow to profits.

The firm said it was also continuing to invest in the store portfolio and was ``very encouraged" by growing revenues from its environmentally friendly GreenEarth machines.
