MW Cleaners Makes Innovative, Green Dry Cleaning

After making the decision to go green about a decade ago, company president Michael Nesbit says the business had to undergo major changes to use the preferred GreenEarth dry cleaning solution. This process uses a non-hazardous silicon-based product rather than the usual petroleum based or synthetic hydrocarbon.
Nesbit claims it is “truly the greenest way of dry cleaning available.” MW Cleaners is the only dry cleaning company in the Houston area using this green cleaning solution, he says.
“For us, it was a very expensive business decision,” says Nesbit. “A million dollars to retrofit our organization to using this product, but we felt the benefit to the consumer and to our employees was worth it.”
Consumers apparently agree. Nesbit says business overall is “up double digits.” While he admits he cannot directly attribute increased business to the company’s green initiatives, he does believe it is a factor.
In addition to using the GreenEarth solution, MW Cleaners recycles garment hangers. The company also uses recycled materials where possible.
“We recycled over one million hangers last year,” boasts Nesbit, “so we kept a million hangers out of landfills.”
MW Cleaners cleans about 20 million garments and other pieces annually, according to Nesbit, including about 6 million in retail, with tuxedo cleaning accounting for the remainder. That makes MW Cleaners the largest dry cleaners in the country, he says.
